On Being Responsible is a minute melodic study for saxophone (any saxophone) or some other wind instrument.  This is a musical image of the individual’s call to a wise, loving pursuit of the welfare of the local and global community during a time of pandemic.  I composed it in July 2020 as an exercise for a CFAMC listening page, with Ephesians 5:15-20 in mind.

In purely expressive terms:  The solitary melodic line carefully traces a wistful, hopeful course through a landscape of steady but eccentric meter and harmony, occasionally faltering in the effort to make sense out of a bewildering path.
