Psalm 126 is a recollection of the Lord’s work to restore the fortunes of Zion. This setting draws from the psalm a generalized plea for God’s restoration of those making and receiving its performance. It would be a mistake to interpret “fortunes” outside of the sense expressed in the psalm: a vivid, personally charged invocation of the Lord’s redemption and restoration, wondrous beyond hope.
